1/20/26 - Today, the Lee County Board of Directors directed their staff to procure a contractor to build several safety measures for the 5.7-mile two-lane section of Burnt Store Road from Van Buren north to Vincent Avenue.

The improvements will include:

- Add rumble strips on the edge lines and along the center line to alert drivers if they cross out of the travel lanes

- Adding 1.06-mile-long passing lanes

- Adding 4 ft. paved shoulders

The next step will be to obtain environmental permits for the additional pavement, which will be done during the bidding process for the project's construction. The project will take six to nine months to permit. It will take about nine months to complete once construction starts.

The estimated cost of the improvements is $5.7 MM. These improvements are being done to increase safety until the Burnt Store Rd is expanded to four lanes in the future.
